PRESSURE BALANCED FOR CAR BATTERY CELL PRODUCTION

Car battery cell production

Germany

EN 13445

Belman has designed and manufactured a total of 22 Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints for Europe’s largest car battery cell production facility supplying the European electrical car industry. The Expansion Joints will be installed in the cold water supply pipe in this plant.

CLIENT ISSUE
The client needed the engineered Expansion Bellows to absorb axial and lateral movements in the cold water piping supplying six production lines in their plant. The client requested Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints to absorb these movements, and needed the Expansion Joints to be designed in different sizes and installation lengths to match the different locations in the pipelines. The Expansion Joints furthermore needed to be able to absorb the different sizes of movements.

BELMAN SOLUTION

Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints engineered to the needs of the client

Belman designed the Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints according to the specifications provided by the client and ensured that they could absorb the axial and lateral movements in combination. The principle of the Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joint that was specially designed for this purpose is that the two Bellows in the top of the Expansion Joint absorb the lateral movement, while the balance bellows (the big Bellow in the middle of the Expansion Joint) and the Bellow at the bottom of the Expansion Joint absorb the axial movement. This special design means that the movements in the pipeline are absorbed by the Expansion Joint. The Inline Pressure Balanced design also eliminates pressure-related forces on the connecting piping. The mounted tie rods function as external limiters and help to control the absorption of movements.

The Expansion Joints were delivered with full documentation (MDB), full traceability incl. extensive testing such as a pressure test, leak test, magnet test (MT), visual test, and positive material identification (PMI).

Advantages of Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints

Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints are often preferred as they help to reduce the complexity and size of fix points by eliminating pressure thrust, thereby delivering stability to the pipe system. They also require less space for the structures that carry fix points and guides. Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints are the optimum solution for installation in pipe sections connected to equipment unable to withstand pressure thrust loads or located at a height where additional structures would significantly increase costs.

Belman – experienced in engineered Expansion Joint solutions

Since 1994, Belman has customised and engineered Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joint solutions for clients across different industries worldwide. Throughout the years, Belman has supplied Pressure Balanced Expansion Bellows in many different sizes and designs, including ones with hidden balance chambers designed to fit into limited spaces in the piping system as well as Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints formed with wide open angles to avoid media build-up inside the Bellows. Belman, therefore, is the go-to company for engineered Inline Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints.
